So, who's quietly mulling this over?

In addition to the formally designated Transition Towns/Cities/Districts, there over 600 communities in communication with us as they consider the possibility of kicking off their own Transition Initiative.

If you've read the Primer and are "mulling over" whether you might set up an initiative in your locale, then you may want to consider getting yourself onto one of the GoogleMaps below.

That way, anyone else from your community who gets in touch with us can be put in contact with you. Similarly, if you check out the map and see somewhere close to you already marked on it, perhaps you'd like to be connected to them too.

To see who's mulling over a potential transition initiative near you, check out the GoogleMaps below by clicking on one of the thumbnail maps. Please note that the map for England runs onto 3 pages - too many for one googlemap to handle!

Any transitioners near you?

If you want to join up with others near you who are embarking on this journey, here's how:

A. Check the relevant GoogleMaps, and if your community IS LISTED on one of the googlemaps linked below...

  1. warning: there are 3 maps for the UK, so make sure you’ve checked each one
  2. see if there's a contact name associated with the "marker"
  3. send them an email and wait with tingly anticipation
  4. if there's no contact name:
    • feel free to add your own email address in there if you'd like others in your community to contact you
    • you'll need a google account (very easy to set up)
    • sign in to your Google account
    • navigate to the correct map
    • click on the “edit” button on the left frame to put the map into edit mode
  • WARNING: only edit the marker details, NOT the map title or description
  • click on your marker and add your email address
  • it's best to use the yourname[AT]domain[DOT]org format to fool those nasty bots that harvest email addresses
  • click save
  • you can also email us and we'll put you in touch with the "mullers" there.

B. If your community IS NOT LISTED in one of the googlemaps linked below...

  1. sign in to Google (or set up an account if you haven't already - it's a cinch)
  2. navigate to the correct map
  3. click on the “edit” button on the left frame to put the map into edit mode
  4. WARNING: only edit the marker details, NOT the map title or description
  5. add a light blue marker to the google map for your community
  6. add your contact details to the marker (click here to see how that works.)
  7. hit the save button
  8. pull up a chair and a crisp Shiraz and wait for some really cool resilience-minded folks to contact you...

GoogleMap gremlins?

  • left frame not showing?
    • check out the picture to the right - you'll see a couple of chevrons on the top left of the map. Click on them and the left margin should be revealed
  • can't see the edit button?
    • sometimes GoogleMaps misbehaves and hides the button. Or it may have something to do with your cache. Either way, try closing down your browser, sacraficing an albino goat on the altar of the Internet, waiting for the 29-March to come around and then reopening it. No guarantees tho'...
  • not seeing any markers?
    • GoogleMaps can behave unpredictably. Hit the F5 button to refresh. If that doesn't work, try closing down the browser and reopening.

List of Mullers

A long list of initiatives used to be on this page. Now that the GoogleMaps have been opened up for editing by communities and are expanding fast, it doesn't make sense (nor is it practicable) to keep an alphabetically sorted list as well as the lists on the GoogleMaps.

The GoogleMaps and their accompanying lists are the definitive list of groups and communities that are beginning their transition journeys. The definitive list of "official" transition initiatives is here.

Attached is the archived list of "mullers" as of Sep-08.
