Tring in Transition Steering Group Minutes of meeting held on Tuesday 2nd June 2009
Present: Veronica & John Allan, Bar & Brian Kazer, Chris Hopkins, Chris Palmer, John Strachan, Philip & Carol Scribbins
Apologies: Nicky Bull
1. Matters arising: NatWest bank garden is not available for use. Google recommended for general but not detailed information. Dacorum council is not willing to provide a list of house types to enable production of an Energy Descent Action Plan. Ashton Hayes group has sent a DVD illustrating their method.
2. Eco-Fair 10 October 2009: Funding is not yet secure. Vicky Duxbury has offered to help raise funds; a refreshment co-ordinator will be needed; , Barr Kazer to send John Allan a list of tasks needed for Fair in order to ask for volunteer helpers. Chris Hopkins to inform Barr, (for grant applications), the cost of hire of hall and insurance; John Allan to deal with publicity later; Veronica A to contact Dr Joanne Mortimer re therapy with disadvantaged youngsters using recycled materials. Tring Youth Council is not interested. Swap Shop and WI contact by Veronica Allan. The stalls may be oversubscribed.
3. John Strachan commented that all efforts on one project at a time could be more effective than several being organised by the different Action Groups at the same time. Agreed to communicate all news to everyone, once a month, with exact details when and where help is needed, before Action Groups meet. General information to the wider group of interested people once every six months. It was agreed to meet again at the Greenhouse.
4. There is great enthusiasm for trolleys, designs to be investigated with Brian Reid’s help, by the Transport Group.
5. Future events: 6 July 2009, The Age of Stupid at St. Martha’s Church, 8pm. John Allan agreed to book St Martha’s for several future meetings; to advise later. Eco Fair, 10 October 2009.
6. Tring Environmental Forum strongly supports TinT, having provided a projector and our first year’s insurance cover. They propose an umbrella insurance with similar organisations. Tring Arts Trust (theatre groups and Pendley) could be contacted via Robert Stringer.
7. AOB: The Food Group would like to invite a ‘food expert’ to speak to a public meeting. Chris Hopkins agreed to investigate via DEFRA. Veronica will find out about training sessions (weekends?) about Transition Towns. There are two copies of Forest Row booklets to circulate. Help will be needed on Sunday 5 July, to help clear up after Tring School’s Fanfares & Fireworks concert on 4 July 2009.
Date of next meeting: 8 September 2009 at 7.30pm at 36 Friars Walk, Tring.
The meeting ended at 9.45pm.

The steering Group’s VISION for Tring
A Tring where people work from home and locally. People are homemakers with relearned skills. There are many electric cars with free parking/charging spots. More green areas with communal gardens and communal places to do things. Less public/commercial lighting. More food grown and produced locally and used in schools etc. Different way of society operating - a less complex civilisation worldwide. Providing more of our own entertainment. Walking more, more public transport. More secure Tring for families and elderly. Tring has its own local strong identity and is a sustainable town.

FIRST MEETING OF NEW STEERING GROUP
March 3rd 7.30pm 36 Friars Walk tel 824494
The treasurer reported that we had £20 in our bank account.
Reports were received from the four Action Groups and all proposed actions were agreed. (See the Action Group reports in this WIKI) It was agreed that it was sensible to start off with small achievable actions. It was agreed that any letters produced by Action Groups would be emailed round the Steering group for approval.
Barr was appointed schools coordinator to ensure we had a joined up approach to schools.
The AGM would take the form of a short formal AGM followed by the film "The Truth About Climate Change" by David Attenborough (part 1). Part 2 would be shown at the next public meeting. The Chair, Secretary and Treasurer wished to stand down and we would therefore have to find new candidates. We would also need a Publicity/Communications officer.
We would attend “The Age of Stupid” premier in Watford to give out leaflets, and would also try an attend the new Tring Spring Fair and Farmers’ Market 10th anniversary. We had been asked to combine the Eco Fair with the Apple Week in some way, and we agreed to investigate.
We would look at the possibility of a 12 page booklet about the four Action Groups to be delivered to all houses in Tring.
It was agreed we would join Tring Together and play an active part
The question of insurance for those helping in other peoples gardens was brought up. The secretary would investigate.
Next meeting for Steering Group members - 28th April
