Do you know....

Packet-Size Timetables?

It's easy to print-off handy pocket size timetables. However, don't forget to use re-cycled paper.

For nationalrail.co.uk site, simply enter your regular travel details and then select the Pocket Timetable link from right-hand side bar.

For Tring local bus timetables, simple navigate to the required bus route on www.intralink.org.uk, view the PDF timetable, select print, enter a "scale" of, say, 20% and then print.

Good News stories about travelling on public transport...

The light green guide to travelling a bit more environmentally... while maintaining sanity, marriage, bank account etc..

Tring – Bristol? At first glance not an easy route by public transport. We drove to Oxford ‘Thornhill’ Park & Ride on the A40. This takes surprisingly little time (40 minutes) especially if you go the ‘back way’ (Wendover – Little Kimble – Longwick – Thame ) The Park & Ride has free and secure parking. (72 hours is the limit). The Park & Ride bus goes directly to Oxford station where smooth and fast trains take you to Bristol with a change at Didcot. We managed Tring to Bristol city centre in 3 hours.

Tring – Leicester (& East Midlands?) Again not easy at first glance. We drove to Luton Airport Parkway (out of rush hour quickest to pick up the M1 at Hemel and get off a couple of junctions later for Luton airport). Parkway station has a small multistory which is cheap at weekend s (£2/day). Regular trains head north for Derby, Nottingham, Leicester and Sheffield. Made Tring to Leicester city centre in 1 and 3/4 hours

Family Days-Out By Train? With a little bit of advanced planning, you can have a really great, reasonably priced, fun day-out with the family. Make the train journey party of the fun. As Jim would say "let the train take the strain"! There are lots of deals around from the train operators. Plus, to make it an extra-special occasion, and add that bit of magic, you can pay a little extra and eat in the 1st class dinning-car while they still exist - something the kids will remember.
